Aarohi

Delivering Healthcare
to Remote Communities

SHA supports the NGO Aarohi, a healthcare initiative in Uttarakhand that provides essential medical services to marginalised populations. Through its 24/7 outpatient and emergency care, inpatient services, diagnostics, injury treatments, and dental care, Aarohi ensures continuous healthcare access in the Kumaon region of east Uttarakhand.

Surgical Camps: Affordable,
Life-Changing Care

In Satoli, specialised surgicals are arranged 4-5 times a year, mainly in General Surgery and Urology. For two camps, a voluntary Swiss Surgery Team travels to India to review patients, operate a number of cases on 3-5 days, and ensure follow-up. Simultaneously, we hold lectures on important medical topics and train the medical skills of the team of doctors.

MMU

Mobile Medical Unit:
Healthcare on Wheels

In partnership with NAJBO Foundation SHA helped sponsor a new Mobile Medical Unit (MMU) bus in 2020. Equipped with modern diagnostic tools like ECG, ultrasound, and lab testing, the MMU reaches the most remote villages of the Nainital and Champawat District.

Operates 9 days a month, covering 96-108 day camps annually, since 2025 also in the Champawat District

Arogya is a non-profit organisation dedicated to improving maternal and child health and reducing mortality in rural Uttarakhand. Arogya is leading a five-year initiative to reduce maternal and infant mortality in Champawat, benefiting over 225,000 people. The plan includes:

CanKids

Fighting Childhood Cancer

While childhood cancer has high cure rates globally, in India, 50% of children with cancer still die due to late or no detection, financial constraints, lack of awareness and limited medical infrastructure. In Uttarakhand, these challenges are worsened by difficult terrain, extreme weather conditions and long travel times to tertiary healthcare centers.

SHA, in collaboration with CanKids India at AIIMS Hospital Rishikesh, is working to provide high-quality, comprehensive cancer care for children, ensuring they get the treatment they need without financial barriers. Since SHA is involved the numbers of children treated annually have more than doubled, from 240 to over 500.
